The City of Mandurah will shortly commence important road resurfacing works on part of Tims Thicket Road to improve safety, road quality, and driving conditions for all users.
Scheduled works
The resurfacing activities are currently planned to take place over three consecutive days, from Tuesday, 10 February until Thursday, 12 February. Construction hours will run from 7:00am to 5:00pm each day.
Temporary road closure and access impacts
To allow the works to be completed safely and efficiently, part of Tims Thicket Road (from Hercules Close to the beach car park) will be temporarily closed during construction hours. This full closure is necessary due to site constraints and the nature of the resurfacing activities.
As a result:
- Access to the beach will be restricted between 7.00am and 5.00pm during the works.
- Access to Tims Thicket and surrounding areas will be reinstated outside construction hours, where it is safe and practicable to do so.
Local road users, beach visitors, and residents are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time for alternate routes.
Why these works are important
These resurfacing improvements will help extend the life of Tims Thicket Road, enhance safety for all road users, and improve the driving experience in this well‑used coastal area.
Beach access
Following recent community conversations, we want to reassure our community that there’s no plan to ban 4WD beach access at Tims Thicket or White Hills.
The draft Southern Beaches CHRMAP does not recommend closing beach access. Instead, it recognises how important these areas are for 4WDing, fishing, and recreation, while highlighting the need for responsible management to protect dunes, vegetation, and cultural heritage. Community feedback played a big role in shaping this approach. Residents told us they value beach access for 4WDing but also want to make sure it’s sustainable for future generations.
To achieve this, the CHRMAP refers to the Yalgorup National Park Concept Master Plan (DBCA 2024) as the guide for future management actions. This may include modified access to prevent track over-use and dune damage, but continued access will remain.
The City is also working with Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions to upgrade the Tims Thicket carpark, including tyre inflation/deflation bays.
